Hiboy NEX5 Price and Availability
As we already said, the Hiboy NEX5 is the latest in line of NEX electric scooters by Hiboy. NEX series of electric scooters consists of the NEX3 and the NEX5 electric scooters. At the moment both variants are available on Hiboy store. The Hiboy NEX5 went on sale in summer 2021. It’s available on Hiboy Store for $749.99 (confirm price) as well as on Amazon (check now).
Hiboy NEX5 Design
The NEX5 without a doubt features one of the most interesting designs in the world of electric scooters I’ve seen so far. It has so called integrated design with a wide downtube transitioning from the black handlebars to the yellow (or black) body. All of the scooter’s wires are hidden, which gives it a cleaner and sleeker look.
In between the handlebars is a bright LED intuitive dashboard that shows your speed, battery life, and riding modes. Like the Varla Pegasus, the NEX5 has thumb-controlled throttle to control acceleration.
Folding the NEX5 is effortless and in less than 3 second you can fold or unfold it. This shows how much thought was given to its design. When you fold the scooter, all you need to do is to pull a single lever at the bottom of the steering tube. More precisely, this lever is cleverly hidden inside the part connecting a steering tube and a standing deck. Unfolding the scooter back up is just as easy.
At 4.08 pounds, the NEX5 is not the lightest electric scooter I’ve seen, but, still it’s not a problem to take it into the car trunk or up the stairs. I don’t recommend to carry it around for more than a few minutes because it feels pretty heavy. Also, it’s harder to carry the NEX5 around because you have to grip it by one hand holding wide steering tube, only a grownup man can do it and even in that case you have to put a lot of muscle into it.
Hiboy NEX5 Motor, Battery, Range and Speed
With a single, 350 W motor, the NEX5 isn’t going to win any speed races. In fact, because it has a weight limit of 260 lbs, larger riders might find this electric scooter underpowered. This is especially if you are an experienced rider. So, I recommend the NEX5 for teenagers and inexperienced riders because the NEX5 with its cool design is going to be great introduction into more powerful electric scooters like the Varla Eagle One, the Hiboy Titan, the Apollo City, and the Apollo Ghost.
Its top speed of 19 miles per hour is in the line of other similar scooters like Turboant M10, Gotrax G4 and FIAT 500. I was able to get near top speed on flat and especially downhill, but going up even a gradual incline slowed the scooter down to under 10 mph or less. So, top speed is something that you will have in ideal conditions, not all the time and it depends on various conditions like terrain, rider’s weight etc.
Speed aside, the NEX5 was a pleasurable scooter to ride. While it lacks inflatable tires comfort is upgraded with dual suspension system.
What I was pleasantly surprised with the NEX5 is its maximum riding range of 34 miles. This is achieved with an upgraded battery consysting of 2 x 270 Wh battery packs (one inside standing deck and the other is detachable battery which is a part of the steering tube. So, with fully charged batteries you can ride up to 2 hours straight. Since the battery is detachable you can take inside for recharging and leave the scooter in the garage or inside your car.
The NEX5 comes with the NEX5 App which you can download on Google Play and App Store. The App shows the speed, range and battery life remaining, and even has a Dashboard mode so you can use your phone rather than the built-in dash on the scooter.
If you’re looking for one of the coolest-looking and affordable city commuter long range scooters, the Hiboy NEX5 will fit the bill. However, it’s not the fastest electric scooter on the market. I recommend it for those who don’t need wind in the hair, but rather safe and reliable commuter and for inexperienced riders.
